Childhood PTSD: Are your present problems related to what happened to you as a child?

I always talk about the long term effects of childhood trauma and how your family of origin greatly influences your relationships as an adult. Most of my clients come to me, not realizing that their present problems (issues they sought treatment for) stem from what happened to them as a child. It isnt til I dive in DEEP (my clients know I go REALLLLY DEEP) that it's discovered and my clients have the "ahaa" moment. While talking about current issues are important, I always like to find the absolute ROOT of the problem. It is only then that we can truly heal. We bury so many of our issues that they show up in our lives one way or the other in a negative way. Sometimes they are buried SO DEEP that we have NO IDEA why we get triggered and/or react to certain situations the way we do. Ironically, I like to think of the hidden "issue" as a neglected child hiding & throwing tantrums because it didnt get any attention from us. Once we find that issue, we can give it the attention it deserves, and it can then behave because it's now happy and satisfied from not being neglected anymore.

If you’ve ever been curious if this applies to you, the video below educates you on the family dynamics. At the end of the video, there is a quiz you can take, which makes for a great self reflection & journaling.
